Old Music Tuesdays: Mr. Bungle live at Bizarre Festival
For this Old Music Tuesday, I’ve posted another full-length concert. This time, I’ve selected Mr. Bungle’s performance at Germany’s Bizarre Festival in the Summer of 2000. Unlike the MxPx concert that I posted two weeks ago, I cannot truthfully say I attended this concert, but I certainly wish I could have. As I’ve stated before, I’m a huge Mike Patton fanboy, and Mr. Bungle is no exception. In fact, California is one of my “desert island records.” (For those of you who don’t know, a “desert island record” is a record that you’d like to have with you if you were stranded on a desert island. The idea is you wouldn’t have access to a lot of music, so you have to pick one of your favorite albums that has a lot of replay potential.) The reason I’d pick this album is because of the variety. On one record, you will hear polka, metal, electronica, surf rock, doo wop, and much more, yet somehow it all fits together into a cohesive package. Check out the song Ars Moriendi for a complete mind trip.
At this show, Mr. Bungle opened with an excellent cover of Burt Bacharach’s What The World Needs Now Is Love. After this, they mostly played songs off of their latest album, the aforementioned California. Like other Patton projects, the passion and energy come through on every song. Please read my Tomahawk concert review for more on that, or you can jump directly to the concert which is embedded below. Enjoy!
