Old Music Tuesdays: These Arms Are Snakes

These Arms Are Snakes was a “supergroup” formed in Seattle in 2002. (I put the word supergroup in quotes because I’m not really sure if indie bands count; These Arms Are Snakes featured members of Botch and Kill Sadie.) After the breakup, the members went on to join groups like the instrumental Russian Circles and the indie-pop outfit Minus the Bear. (I recommend checking out those bands as well.)
While together, These Arms Are Snakes released three LPs, and EP, and six split albums. Their music is considered “post-hardcore” but there are also definite punk and mathcore elements to the music. The song I’m sharing with you today is the first track off of their final LP, Tail Swallower and Dove. I’ve shared a live version with you as it captures a bit of the group’s energy in a way a studio album does not. The lyrics are a bit of nonsense, but I think the song is a lot of fun. I hope you enjoy it!
Lyrics
He sink in the ground,
On these streets of 11th and Howell.
May he run down blocks and city halls,
To be drank by city folks and shivering crows,
To make this right.
All the way down to the Sound!
You’ll be a sound mite,
And I’ll be your roe.
And all of those blood types,
Become the sow.
He said he sold one leg,
To a mite on the corner of 11th and Howell.
So he could run down the throats,
Of any folks that he cared to choke,
In shivering clothes,
To make this right.
You’ll be a sound mite, and I’ll be your roe.
And all of you blood types become the sow.
Teeth jangling lie like lights supporting the whole thing.
They spit, drool slowly falls. Gelatin rain!
For the second embrace!
Opening eyes erases all sound.
As always, thanks for reading! Please share this post if you care to support this site.
