Old Music Tuesdays: Pixies

I apologize if you expected my Old Music Tuesdays post to be my review of the NIN and Soundgarden concert that I attended over the weekend. I’m still planning on writing the review, but I need a little bit more time to do it properly. In the meantime, enjoy the Pixies!
The Pixies are a post punk band from Boston, Massachusetts. Nirvana fans will recognize them as a major influence cited by Kurt Cobain. Fans of the movie Fight Club will recognize them as the band playing over the end credits. (The song is called Where Is My Mind?, and it’s been covered many, many times.) Indie music fans will recognize them as rock gods.
The Pixies were mainly active in the late 80s and early 90s and were pioneers of the “quiet-loud-quiet” song structure made famous by Cobain and Nirvana. The band broke up in 1993, but reunited last year and released a fantastic new album called Indie Cindy. It’s made up of the tracks they released on EPs during their 2013 reunion tour. (Sadly, I missed it.)
There are many great tracks that I could’ve chosen for this post, but I decided to go with my favorite song, Tame. It’s a good representation of the “quiet-loud-quiet” dynamic that I mentioned and is one of the Pixies heavier songs. Frank Black, the band’s vocalist, screams his head off… and it’s wonderful. (I included a live version, for your enjoyment.) Tame is also the second track off of my favorite Pixies album, which you can purchase by clicking on the Amazon link that I provided at the beginning of this post.
Enjoy the music and buy the CD by clicking the Amazon link. (Why don’t you own it yet?) Thanks for reading!
Lyrics
got hips like cinderella
must be having a good shame
talking sweet about nothing
cookie i think you’re
tame
i’m making good friends with you
when you’re shaking your good frame
fall on your face in those bad shoes
lying there like you’re tame
uh huh huh
tame!
