Old Music Tuesdays: The Chariot featuring Listener.

The Chariot is a metalcore band from Douglasville, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta. Josh Scogin, the frontman and only constant member, was the original vocalist for the more well-known Norma Jean. If you enjoy Norma Jean’s music, you probably already know The Chariot. Just in case you don’t, you should check them out. I just found out they were calling it quits, so I decided to devote this week’s Old Music Tuesday to them. Embedded and linked is one of my favorite music videos, all taken in one shot. The set up must have been intense, and they pull it off flawlessly. I wonder how many takes they had to do before they got it right.
The video features guest vocals from Dan Smith of the Atlanta-based Listener. Listener is a hip hop/poetry project, completely the opposite of metalcore. Somehow, it works. I’m not going to lie; At first, I hated Listener. I thought Dan’s vocal style seemed erratic and nonsensical. After a few listens, though, something clicked. His broken, stammering style really helps to accentuate certain words and beats, and it sets him apart from other hip hop groups. Check out Listener here.
Please enjoy the video, and comments are always appreciated. Enjoy!
